Autumn scene from The Four Seasons by the Shanghai Dance Academy

20 March marks the autumnal equinox for the southern hemisphere, and as the leaves start to show bold shades of gold here in Johannesburg, autumn certainly seems to be settling in for a visit.

While I’m sad to wave goodbye to summer, the golden season brings its own gentle, yet dramatic beauty. These qualities are portrayed with such perfect power in The Shanghai Dance Academy’s Autumn, part of their production of The Four Seasons Ballet.

The choreography is simply startling, in a delightfully good way. The set design is also remarkable. Watch this video and you’ll see what I mean.
