Hi Laura,

Thanks so much for your comment, I'll be sure to pass it onto Sean immediately (My company, The CoLab Network, was the Associate Producer on Queen At The Ballet, facilitating the trip up to Joburg.

We actually had 2 completely sold out seasons of Queen At The Ballet in CPT in 2012, hence the demand to bring it up to Joburg...

And now with the success of the Joburg season, it seems as if CPT wants it back! :-)

We don't have anything finalised yet, but I assure you, we ARE looking at the possibility.

Please can you email me on collett@thecolabnetwork.com so I can add you to our database, to ensure you get that information as soon as it's released.

Glad you enjoyed Private Presley - that was in 2013....

Kind regards
Collett

Hi, I will be visiting CT in August 2014. Which ballet will be on this year? Last year, I saw Sleeping Beauty, and the year before that, Raymonda. It's always the highlight of my trip!

Hi Vicky, what a pity you had a disappointing experience! I completely agree that if the sound is bad, then it destroys the enjoyment of the show. Let's hope that between the venue and Joburg Ballet, they can sort this out before their next tour to Bloem.

Hi, I was so excited to see Coppèlia last night (27/3/2014) performed by Joburg ballet - what a disappointment, nothing against the dancers but the SOUND! I can understand that everyone's trying to save money but if they're not going to bother to have a symphony orchestra then get a proper sound system. The sound was terrible, very unprofessional. Such a big part of the ballet is about the music and if the music sounds awful then it is very difficult to enjoy the ballet. We love supporting the arts but if that is what we get it is not possible to give our support. We invited friends to the ballet in Bloem and it was embarrassing to have them there. Also, we went to see a professional show, not girls from a local dance school perform (after Act 1), again I understand why it's done but it is not the time and place for it. A big thumbs-down to the music at Coppèlia and unfortunately as a result, the ballet.

I always knew that sleep is very important even if you are not an athlete. I find even after training hard my body just wants more sleep. Having to get up for work with only 7-8 hours of sleep is very hard - Body just wants more sleep. But on weekends when I get to sleep 11-12 hours my training is more intense and I have more energy and I crave less food. Sleep is the Key!

Hi Jo, I’m so sad to hear about your discouraging experience. While I’m not a ballet teacher and therefore not the best qualified to answer your question, I can tell you from my own experiences that body shape, size, height and even age has nothing to do with Cecchetti exam criteria. If your daughter loves to dance, that is the only criteria that should matter.

Roughly speaking though, I’ve found that ballet teachers vary on what I call the joy-perfection scale: there are teachers who focus mostly on the joy of dance, opening their studios to anyone with a passion for ballet; and there are teachers who focus almost exclusively on technical perfection, narrowing their studio down to only the most promising candidates working towards a professional on-stage career. And then there are teachers somewhere in the middle. There’s no right or wrong here, just what’s right for you and your daughter.

Short answer: It sounds like it's time to find a new teacher who values the joy of dance a little more than your current teacher does. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
