Exclusive ballet classes for boys and men

South African Mzansi Ballet is now offering special ballet classes exclusively for men and boys aged 13 to 21.

The 90-minute classes will initially take place every Saturday morning from 8:30am to 10am at the SAMB Studios at the Joburg Theatre, Braamfontein, Johannesburg (entrance in Hoofd Street).

The first class took place on Saturday 16 February and was taught by distinguished visiting teacher, Ana Julia Bermudez, from the National Ballet School of Cuba, headquartered in Havana.

Making ballet accessible for male dancers

The classes are well priced at just R30 per class to make them accessible to as many aspiring young male dancers as possible.

SAMB believes that ballet classes exclusively designed for male dancers fills a definite need in Johannesburg, allowing young male dancers to share studio space as well as the all-important learning process with their peers.

Up until now, ballet has certainly tended to be a predominantly female oriented activity in South Africa, so let’s hope that with the creation of an exclusively male student environment, more young men will be encouraged to share in the learning process.
